Vice President, Scouting
Mike enters his 5th season as Vice President, Scouting after 5 seasons as Director, Amateur Scouting. Rikard has been with the club since 2005 working in various roles within the Red Sox scouting department. Prior to being named Scouting Director in 2015, he served as a regional crosschecker (2005 - 2010) and national crosschecker (2010 -2014).
During his time as a crosschecker, he played a key role in the drafting of players such as Anthony Rizzo, Josh Reddick, Christian Vazquez, Jackie Bradley Jr. and Mookie Betts. As the Scouting Director, he oversaw the selection of players such as Andrew Benintendi, Tanner Houck, Jarren Duran, Tristan Casas and Kutter Crawford, amongst others.
Prior to joining the Red Sox, he worked as an area scout for the San Diego Padres from 2000 - 2004. Before that, he worked as assistant baseball coach for Wake Forest University from 1995-2000 where he was a part of three ACC Championships. During the summers of 1999 and 2000, he served as the Manager of the Bourne Braves, of the prestigious Cape Cod League.
Mike comes from a baseball family. His father, Bob, served as a minor league catcher and coach for 12 years and his uncle, Culley Rikard, played for the Pittsburgh Pirates during the 1940's. Mike resides in Raleigh, North Carolina with his wife, Amber, and their three kids Keaton, Emery and Culley.
