O's hire Barringer as new head athletic trainer
The Orioles have found their new head athletic trainer, who will be only the fifth person to serve in the role in team history.
Scott Barringer has been hired as Baltimore’s head athletic trainer for the 2025 season, the team announced Saturday. Barringer spent the past six seasons in the same role for the Brewers.
Barringer will succeed Brian Ebel, who had been the Orioles’ head athletic trainer since 2018. Ebel spent 40 years in the organization before it was reported in October that he would not be returning in ‘25.
Prior to his time in Milwaukee, Barringer spent two seasons as an assistant athletic trainer in Houston (2017 and ‘18). Orioles general manager Mike Elias was an Astros assistant GM at the time.
Barringer won a World Series title with Houston in 2017. The Astros also won Athletic Training Staff of the Year that season, an honor presented by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society and voted on by their peers.
In 2016, Barringer was Houston’s Minor League medical coordinator. Prior to that, he had stints as a Minor League athletic trainer with the Cubs (‘13-15) and the D-backs (‘11-12).
Barringer graduated from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania in 2009, then got his master’s degree from East Carolina University in ‘11.
The Orioles’ previous head athletic trainers were Ebel (2018-24), Richie Bancells (1988-2017), Ralph Salvon (1968-87) and Eddie Weidner (1954-67).
