Orioles promote Wynns to replace Susac
BALTIMORE -- The Orioles, who sent catcher Andrew Susac to Triple-A Norfolk after Saturday's game, have promoted Austin Wynns from the Tides to replace him. Wynns was in the Orioles' clubhouse before Sunday's game was rained out.
Susac, who replaced the struggling Caleb Joseph on the roster on May 17, hit just .115 in nine games.
Wynns, who is 27, was hitting .265 with three home runs and 14 RBIs for Norfolk. He was the Orioles' 10th-round pick in the 2013 Draft, and will be making his Major League debut.
Tides manager Ron Johnson told Wynns of the move on Saturday night.
"It was unreal," Wynns said. "I was just, like, 'Wow.' Just like a dream come true, almost."
Orioles catchers have had a tough time offensively this season. Collectively, they're batting just .192 with three homers and 17 RBIs. Joseph, who was the Opening Day catcher, hit just .182 with a home run and three RBIs in 24 games. Rookie Chance Sisco is hitting .210 with two homers and 15 RBIs.
