Mets No. 2 prospect Jett Williams sprained his right ankle in the Arizona Fall League regular-season finale on Thursday, but he appears to have avoided a major injury.

Although there’s been no word on the severity of Williams’ ankle sprain, Mets officials are optimistic it won’t have a significant impact on his offseason.

Williams, who has been playing for the Scottsdale Scorpions in the AFL, suffered the injury on Tyler Callihan’s leadoff double in the bottom of the first inning Thursday, bumping into the outfield wall while attempting to corral Callahan’s fly ball to left-center field and falling to the ground after getting the ball into the cutoff man.

Williams’ latest ailment comes after he missed significant time while recovering from right wrist surgery during the 2024 Minor League season. The 21-year-old played just 33 games and slashed .215/.358/.298 without a home run, spending time at three Minor League levels. Williams, MLB Pipeline’s No. 52 overall prospect, finished the AFL regular season with a .225 average, two homers and a .758 OPS over 21 games.

Despite Williams’ injury, the Scorpions won their seventh straight game to earn a berth in Friday’s semifinal play-in against the Salt River Rafters. The winner of that matchup will advance to the AFL championship game on Saturday (8 p.m. ET on MLB Network) against the top-seeded Surprise Saguaros.
