Orange and Black Gives Back: Whitelock Community Farm
This weekend, members of the Orioles Families Program along with Orange and Black Gives Back employee volunteers completed multiple service projects at Whitelock Community Farm, an urban farm in the Reservoir Hill neighborhood. Founded by community members in 2010, the farm is a pillar in Reservoir Hill, featuring weekly events, a community supported agriculture program, and youth educational programs.
Whitelock Community Farm is dedicated to growing sustainable food and activating the community to promote social equity in the neighborhood. Their mission is to create educational, skill building, and leadership development opportunities; increase access to healthy, affordable food; foster positive community activity; and promote dialogue about food access, neighborhood development, and environmental justice.
Members of the Orioles Families Program -- including Lisa Hyde, Lori Cossins, Tricia González, Alexandra Elias, and Erika Hardy -- spent the morning cleaning and reorganizing the nursery, mowed and maintained the lawn, and built a cinderblock collection area for trash and farm waste.
