Ryan Mountcastle has been a staple in the Orioles lineup in recent years, and while that remains the same this season, it's the strides that he has made defensively that have turned him into a complete player. Tied for the lead among American League first basemen with four defensive runs saved, Mountcastle seemingly continues to fly under the radar. The speed that he displays, though, is arguably the most underrated aspect of his game, ranking fourth among MLB first basemen in average sprint speed (27.5), per Statcast. Mountcastle has picked up right where he left off last season, continuing to mash left-handed pitching, slashing .306/.359/.494 (26-for-85) off them. He also leads qualified AL first basemen in extra-base hits with 33 and ranks among them in doubles (T-1st, 21) runs (T-1st, 43), average (2nd, .276), SLG (2nd, .466), hits (3rd, 81), and home runs (T-3rd, 11). Mountcastle is in search of his first career All-Star honor and would become the first Orioles first baseman to start a Midsummer Classic since Chris Davis in 2013.
