The Orioles and Houston Astros began a four-game series at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Matt Bowman made his Orioles debut in relief, and Gunnar Henderson and Ryan Mountcastle both doubled. Mountcastle’s 29 doubles this year lead the team.
Friday, August 23
The O’s beat the Astros, 7-5, thanks to Anthony Santander’s go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning. It marked the fourth of Santander’s career, and the seventh by an Oriole this year. Colton Cowser recorded his 19th home run of the year in the third inning. Cowser’s 19 home runs led all rookies at the end of the game. Ramón Urías recorded a triple in the eighth inning to extend the Orioles lead, and Craig Kimbrel earned the win.
Saturday, August 24
The Orioles beat the Astros, 3-2, improving to 76-55 on the year. Jackson Holliday recorded a go-ahead two-out three-RBI double in his first career pinch-hit appearance in the sixth inning. Holliday became the second youngest player in MLB to pinch hit this season (MIL’s Jackson Chourio) and the youngest MLB player with a pinch-hit extra-base hit since Juan Soto on May 15, 2018. It marked his second career game with three-or-more RBI. Emmanuel Rivera made his Orioles debut at third base.
Sunday, August 25
Ramón Urías connected on his ninth home run of the year in the fifth inning. His four home runs this month are tied with August 2022 for his most homer in a single month. Urías has recorded 13 RBI in his last 15 games.
