Retired U.S. Air Force Colonel Walter Holmes has been volunteering with The Food Project for the past 2 years, and each week he runs community based projects with the youth in partnership with the local University students. He has built curriculums for hands on Community Based Education (CBEdu) that will lead to Community Based Enterprises (CBE) to help empower Southwest Baltimore.
Pat Curran, Feed Howard County volunteer leader, has raised funds to purchase meals from local restaurants and delivered nearly 14,000 meals to families in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Known as the “Ocean City Hero,” Bauer saved an 18-month-old girl when he jumped off a 25-foot bridge following a car accident on May 2. After witnessing the car accident, Bauer went to go check on those involved and noticed the young girl was missing from her car seat and face down in the water below. After jumping in to save her, the child was flown to Johns Hopkins hospital where she was expected to make a full recovery.
Merrick Moses is the epitome of leadership in the Baltimore LGBTQ community. Moses volunteers as the Board President for the Pride Center of Maryland and has helped take the organization from the brink of closing its doors after more than four decades, to helping the organization get a new state of the art building.
Lou Gehrig Day Committee
Bryan was a co-chair on the Lou Gehrig Day Committee. In June of 2019, Galentine and a group of friends worked with MLB to honor Lou Gehrig in a similar way to how it honors Jackie Robinson and Roberto Clemente. On October 20, 2020, all 30 MLB teams pledged their commitment, and two days later, three years after his initial diagnosis, Galentine passed away from ALS.
Sarah is a frequent volunteer for The Baltimore Station. She raises funds for their annual events and helps to recruit other volunteers. She is always the first to step up and lend a hand. Over the years, she has helped to raise thousands of dollars for The Baltimore Station.
Derwin Hannah was instrumental in the revitalization of the Catherine St. Park in Southwest Baltimore and was recognized as the 2020 Crawford Prize award winner from the National Recreation Foundation.
Launched in 2009, Elev8 Baltimore provides out-of-school time opportunities, school-based health services, and resources, support and outreach for the families we serve. Earline Coffey is a volunteer for Elev8 Baltimore, an initiative working to ensure that students in the middle grades (5-8) succeed in school and in life. In addition, she runs the food pantry at the Sandtown-Winchester Achievement Academy.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing restaurant industry crisis, Dave founded The Baltimore Restaurant Relief Group as a resource for the local hospitality industry with financial support for Baltimore’s restaurants and its employees.
