The hits keep coming for White Sox star Yoán Moncada.

And more could be on the way.

The talented third baseman recently released his first single “Disastre Personal” alongside El Chacal and Lenier, as well as an accompanying video. It’s one of more than a dozen songs the versatile Cuban star worked on during the offseason and it’s already made an appearance on Billboard’s Tropical Charts.

“It started out as a hobby, meaning I always loved to sing at home,” Moncada said in Spanish. “But one day, I published a song on Instagram singing one of Lenier’s songs, a Cuban singer, and he responded to me! We talked about getting together for a song when I was in Miami, that opened the door for me. That’s how I got my first song.”

Moncada says you can’t help but dance to his music and feel the Caribbean vibe. It’s catchy and fun. It also gives him a chance to show off his dance moves. He’s the latest in a long line of baseball players who have showed off their talents in the studio and on the stage.

“A lot of fans like the music,” he said. “I’ve seen it on Instagram, Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube. They are having a good time with it. At first, I didn’t want to sing. I’m a baseball player, but I like music, too.”

Moncada hit .225 with a .705 OPS and 17 extra-base hits in 52 games during last year’s 60-game season. He tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Summer Camp before the start of the season and never felt the same. In 2019, he slashed .315/.367/.548 with 25 home runs, 34 doubles, 79 RBIs and 83 runs scored.

For now, his focus has shifted back to baseball and Spring Training. White Sox pitchers and catchers report to Camelback Ranch in Arizona on Wednesday with position players scheduled to report on Monday. Moncada expects to get back in the studio once the season ends.

“I’m concentrating on baseball and that’s what is most important,” Moncada said. “After the season is over, then I’ll make a few more songs, but everything is little by little. I’m a better baseball player that sings a little bit.”
