CHICAGO -- Colson Montgomery, the White Sox No. 1 prospect and No. 9 overall, per MLB Pipeline, is one of 14 players from within the organization to receive an invite to 2024 Spring Training.

The White Sox also agreed to Minor League contracts with 11 free agents, bringing the non-roster invite total to 25.

Montgomery, 21, is the No. 2 ranked shortstop prospect, according to Pipeline. He probably won’t break camp with the team, but the 6-foot-3, 205-pound left-handed hitter will do everything possible to change the collective minds of the White Sox front office, as Montgomery told MLB.com during Arizona Fall League action.

As a non-roster invite in 2023, Montgomery was sidelined by an oblique injury five plate appearances into action.

“It was a lesson, but I was kind of bummed to go through that little stuff,” said Montgomery this past November. “It’s out of my control, being hurt and things.

“But I still learned a lot from watching Tim [Anderson] and all the big leaguers -- talking with [Gavin] Sheets and [Andrew] Vaughn and [Jake] Burger. Just talking and hanging out with them, being a professional. Dealing with the fans and also dealing with play on the field. I’m excited for it.”

Catcher Edgar Quero (No. 3), left-hander Ky Bush (No. 9) and righty pitchers Nick Nastrini (No. 6) and Jonathan Cannon (No. 10) join Montgomery as Top 10 White Sox prospects getting Spring Training invites. All 11 of the Minor League free agents signed and invited have previous Major League experience.

Outfielder Kevin Pillar has a strong chance to break with the team as a solid right-handed-hitting veteran presence. Infielder Danny Mendick is a familiar name to White Sox fans, having been selected by the club in the 22nd round of the 2015 Draft and then having played 151 games for the South Siders from 2019-22.
