CHICAGO -- Tuesday night’s Game 2 of the series between the White Sox and Twins at Guaranteed Rate Field was postponed due to a forecast of rain throughout the evening. Rain was falling steadily at the time of the announcement.

That forecast actually had rain in the Chicago area lasting through noon or 1 p.m. CT on Wednesday. Tuesday’s game will be made up as part of a straight doubleheader starting at 1:10 p.m., as the second game will begin approximately 30-45 minutes following the conclusion of the opener.

Parking lots will open at 11:10 a.m. and gates at 11:40 a.m. on Wednesday.

Erick Fedde, who was scheduled to start Tuesday, gets the call in Game 1 for the White Sox Wednesday, with Bailey Ober pitching for the Twins. Drew Thorpe starts for the White Sox in the nightcap, with Pablo López taking the mound for Minnesota.

Fans with tickets, parking and Huntington Bank Stadium Club passes to the originally scheduled 1:10 p.m. contest on July 10 can attend both games of the doubleheader. Season ticket holders, individual suite holders and patio ticket holders will receive a credit to their account for game tickets and parking for Tuesday’s game (July 9). Refunds for all other purchases, including Ticketmaster, SeatGeek and Stubhub, should be initiated at the point of purchase.

Minnesota grabbed an 8-6 victory in Monday’s opener, scoring two in the 11th, and has won all eight head-to-head matchups.

Shortstop Paul DeJong was set to start at third base for the White Sox Tuesday. But that move seemed more about getting the hot-hitting Lenyn Sosa a look at second.

“He looked OK over there in Miami and he’s looked pretty good over there before,” said White Sox manager Pedro Grifol of Sosa at second. “He looked good there last year. He’s swinging the bat as well.

“We want to see Nicky [Lopez] at shortstop, I’ve seen him there before. And we also want to see if we can create a little versatility with Paul.”

The postponement should do the Twins’ pitching staff well, as they used every member of their bullpen except right-hander Cole Sands to win Monday’s extra-innings series opener and will now see the entire group get a day to reset without needing to make any moves other than their 27th man, who is expected to be a pitcher.

The day off should also help the Twins keep their lineup closer to full strength, as they were looking to get Ryan Jeffers, Byron Buxton and Brooks Lee all a day off on Tuesday, when none of the three was slated to be in the starting lineup.

Lee in particular was scheduled for his first game off since being called up to the Majors last Wednesday, with manager Rocco Baldelli not trying to push the youngster too far beyond the regular workload of the Triple-A schedule and its consistent weekly off-days, especially since Lee has only been back for a month from an extended back injury.
