MINNEAPOLIS -- The Twins claimed outfielder Kyle Garlick off waivers from the Braves on Thursday and designated left-hander Brandon Waddell for assignment in a corresponding move. The 40-man roster remains full.

Garlick has hit .214/.276/.414 with three homers in 42 games across parts of two seasons with the Dodgers and Phillies. He brings a right-handed bat with some pop and a remaining Minor League option to the Twins' outfield mix, balancing out the left-handed skew of the group created by Jake Cave, Max Kepler, Alex Kirilloff and Luis Arraez. Byron Buxton and Brent Rooker were previously the Twins' right-handed options.

The 29-year-old Garlick could become a bench option at some point, but he'll have to compete with Cave, Rooker and occasionally Arraez for looks in left field, with Arraez a virtual lock for the Opening Day roster. Meanwhile, Kirilloff could establish himself as the regular left fielder sooner rather than later.

Garlick was traded from the Dodgers to the Phillies last spring and he moved to the Braves' organization in January after he was designated for assignment in Philadelphia. He's a career .288/.345/.536 hitter in the Minors and most recently crushed 23 homers in 81 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City in 2019.

Waddell had been claimed off waivers from Pittsburgh at the end of October after appearing in two MLB games with the Pirates in 2020.
