Community Benefits
Integrating art into the public realm/open space through emblematic paving that both visually and narratively ties together the community is a major focal point for the development. Part of this integration will consist of introducing urban objects such as sculptural gateways, bridges and furnishings that provide visual interest tied to art and culture throughout the site.
A Cultural Arts Promenade will also be created by connecting the new Woodson African American Museum with the African American Heritage Trail, looping along Booker Creek. A public bike and pedestrian corridor focused on art and storytelling opportunities will be built there. Utilizing existing and proposed infrastructure, the loop will serve to connect users to people, culture, history, the environment and civic spaces.
Knowing St. Pete has one of the most thriving arts communities in the country, the art integrations will involve local artists and organizations like the St. Pete Arts Alliance and Creative Pinellas. The plan will also hinge on remaining a great neighbor to the Warehouse Arts District.
The Booker Music Hall will be erected as a new live performance venue for the area, as well as an arts and education center. It will also feature partnerships that foster an appreciation of the arts in the next generation of residents.
