Son of Steve Showalter and Crissy Morris and has one brother, Aaron, and one sister, Abbey...Went to Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah, where as a senior, he posted a 7-1 record and 1.93 ERA with 67 strikeouts over 51.1 innings...led Desert Hills to the Utah state 4A title and a 27-3 overall record...earned All-Utah honors for three straight years...Attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, where he majored in kinesiology and went 17-8 with a 3.03 ERA in three seasons as a Mustang with 284 strikeouts over 223 innings, reaching double digits in strikeouts 13 times...his 149 strikeouts in 2022 was a school record while his 284 career strikeouts is No. 4 in the record books...in 2022, he also ranked third in the nation in hits allowed per nine innings (5.59), sixth in WHIP (0.86), 13th in strikeouts per nine innings (12.81), 17th with his 2.32 ERA and 24th in strikeout-to-walk ratio (5.96)...In 2022, was Cal Poly's first Big West Conference Pitcher of the Year, one of five finalists for National Pitcher of the Year, and was a semifinalist for both the Dick Howser Trophy and Golden Spikes Award...In 2021, pitched for Yarmouth-Dennis in the Cape Cod League, compiling no decisions and 0.90 ERA with nine strikeouts over 10 innings, and he also pitched for Team USA Baseball that year...Enjoys fishing and hiking.

After getting selected by the Yankees in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft out of Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (Calif.), he entered the campaign as NYY's No. 8 ranked prospect by Baseball America and took home numerous weekly, monthly and annual accolades in his first professional campaign...Went 14-2 with a 2.52 ERA (39 ER, 139.1 IP) in 23 combined starts between Single-A Hudson Valley (18 GS) and Double-A Somerset (5 GS),,,Led all Yankees Minor League pitchers in wins, ERA and strikeouts (182)...posted a 0.98 WHIP (38 BB), a .200 opponents' average (99 H) and 11.76 SO/9.0 IP...Began his professional career with Hudson Valley and saw his best month in June, in which he went 3-0 with 0.31 ERA (1 ER, 28.2 IP) across four starts with a 0.63 WHIP and a .129 opponent batting average, earning South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Month honors...Earned SAL's Pitcher of the Week honors on two separate occasions, first on June 4 and again on July 27...Following a promotion to Double-A on August 8, he was named the Eastern League’s Pitcher of the Month for August, having gone 4-0 with a 1.37 ERA (4 ER, 26.1 IP) with a 0.65 WHIP and .133 opponents' average...Earned Eastern League Pitcher of the Week honors on Aug. 13, marking his third weekly honor in 2023...With Somerset, held opponents to a .040 (1-for-25) clip with RISP, but opponents hit .243 (18-for-74) against him at Hudson Valley...Allowed just one HR to a left-handed hitter between his two stops at HV and SOM, allowing 12 HR to righties...Following the season, was named MiLB.com's Pitching Prospect of the Year, and joined Robby Snelling as the two starting pitchers for their All-Prospect First-Team... also joined Snelling as one of five starting starting pitchers for Baseball America's Minor League All-Star Team...additionally, was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year during his time at Hudson Valley.
