Toronto Blue Jays Roster Moves
The TORONTO BLUE JAYS have optioned RHP THAD WEBER to Buffalo of the International League (AAA), designated RHP RAMON ORTIZ for assignment, have placed 3B BRETT LAWRIE on the 15-day disabled list with a left ankle sprain, recalled RHP TODD REDMOND and have selected the contracts of RHP NEIL WAGNER and LHP JUAN PEREZ from Buffalo.
PEREZ, 34, has posted a 0.86 ERA in 17 relief appearances for Buffalo this season with a 2-1 record and three saves. The 6-0, 170 lb. left-handed pitcher from Villa Rivas, Dominican Republic has allowed 12 hits in 21.0 innings this season with 11 walks and 25 strikeouts. Perez, who will wear uniform #57, has appeared in 42 Major League games posting a 1-2 record with an ERA of 4.88 in four seasons while pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates (2006-2007), Philadelphia Phillies (2011) and the Milwaukee Brewers (2012).
REDMOND, 28, has made two appearances this season for Buffalo with one start posting a 1-0 record with a 9.53 ERA. He began the season on the minor league disabled list with right shoulder impingement and will wear #58 for Toronto. Over nine minor league seasons the 6-3, 235 lb. native of St. Petersburg, Florida has compiled a 72-61 record in 209 games, 201 starts with a 3.60 ERA. Redmond, who was claimed on waivers by Toronto from Baltimore on March 22nd, 2013, has appeared in one Major League game coming in 2012, starting for the Cincinnati Reds and allowing four runs over 3 1/3 innings pitched.
WAGNER, 29, has appeared in 19 games for the Buffalo Bisons this season posting a 1-0 record with ERA of 0.89 and 13 saves in 13 opportunities. In his 20 1/3 innings pitched this season he has allowed just ten hits with eight walks and 32 strikeouts. The 6-0, 215 lb. native of Minneapolis, Minnesota has appeared in six Major League games, all in relief with the Oakland Athletics in 2011 where he posted a 7.20 ERA. He will wear uniform #45 for Toronto.
LAWRIE, whose placement on the disabled list is backdated to May 28, is batting .209 this season with five home runs and 14 RBI. ORTIZ has posted a 1-2 record with a 5.01 ERA in six games with three starts and WEBER was 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA in three games for Toronto.
To make room on the 40-man roster the Blue Jays have designated 1B CLINT ROBINSON for assignment.
