MVP Awards
Capping a season for the ages in which he set the AL mark with 62 HRs and also led the Majors in RBIs (131), OPS (1.111), OPS+ (211), total bases (391) and runs (133), Yankees slugger Aaron Judge was the overwhelming selection for AL MVP over two-way star Shohei Ohtani.
In logging the best year of his career, veteran first baseman Paul Goldschmidt flirted with the Triple Crown en route to his first NL MVP Award, hitting .317 with 35 homers and 115 RBIs in helping lead the Cardinals to the NL Central title.
Cy Young Awards
After missing the entire 2021 season, Justin Verlander received a unanimous vote and became the 11th pitcher to win three or more Cy Young Awards and the fifth-oldest pitcher to take home the hardware.
The 27-year-old Sandy Alcantara unanimously won the NL Cy Young with an old-school mentality, leading the Majors in innings with 228 2/3 and twirling six complete games, more than any other team this season.
Rookie of the Year Awards
Mariners outfielder Julio Rodríguez was in a class of his own en route to AL Rookie of the Year honors, leading all rookies in HRs (28), bWAR (6.0) and fWAR (5.3), OPS (.854), wRC+ (146) and total bases (260). He joined Mike Trout as the only players in AL/NL history with at least 25 HRs, 25 SBs and an .800 OPS in their rookie season.
Michael Harris II emerged as an all-around superstar en route to the NL Rookie of the Year Award, finishing 2022 with 19 HRs, 20 SBs, a 4.4 offensive bWAR and 1.3 defensive bWAR despite not debuting with the Braves until May 28. Harris beat out Spencer Strider, making them the eighth set of teammates to finish 1-2 in Rookie of the Year voting.
Manager of the Year Awards
After leading the youngest roster in baseball to the AL Central crown behind their brand of strong pitching, defense and small ball, Guardians skipper Terry Francona earned the AL Manager of the Year Award for the third time in 10 seasons.
Buck Showalter became the first skipper to win Manager of the Year honors with four different teams, taking the honor in the NL after guiding the Mets to 101 wins in his first year with the club. He became the first Mets manager to win the award.
Aaron Awards
Aaron Judge's AL-record 62 home runs grabbed the headlines, but the AL Hank Aaron Award winner led all of baseball in a bevy of categories, including runs (133), RBIs (131), OBP (.425), slugging (.686), OPS (1.111) and total bases (391). Over the past 65 years, only Barry Bonds recorded a loftier single-season wRC+ than Judge’s 207.
A Triple Crown hopeful late into the year, two-time NL Hank Aaron Award winner Paul Goldschmidt paced the NL in slugging percentage (.578), OPS (.981) and OPS+ (180). He also finished among the top three in the senior circuit in runs (106), RBIs (117), total bases (324), batting average (.317), on-base percentage (.404) and WAR.
Clemente Award
In recognition for years of humanitarian work, including the establishment of his own foundation and a continuing determination to help children battling deadly illnesses, veteran Dodgers third baseman Justin Turner was named the winner of the annual Roberto Clemente Award. The honor is bestowed annually to the player who best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.
