This video highlights the experience of notable players who have participated in Major League Baseball and the Players Association Joint Rookie Program. Approaching its 30th anniversary, this off-the-field training and development Program is designed to help players who are on the verge of big league careers make informed decisions. The players who are selected to participate in the Program are regarded as Major League prospects that are likely to be selected or recalled during some part of the upcoming season.
More than 200 of the league’s prospects participated in a program called “Prospects & Expectations,” an initiative through MLB’s Player Programs group at the Commissioner’s Office. Player Programs provide all current and former Major and Minor League players resources that support off-the-field development.
The Former Player Internship Program is a six-month initiative designed to provide former Major League and Minor League players from diverse backgrounds the tools to help them transition from the playing field to jobs in front offices and on coaching staffs.
A first-of-its-kind partnership between Northeastern University and MLB is designed to help players invest in new careers after their dream of playing baseball has ended.
