DETROIT -- For the second consecutive day, the Tigers and Yankees lost out to the weather. This time, an ice storm forced the postponement of their Sunday doubleheader at Comerica Park.
The games will be made up with a day-night doubleheader at Comerica Park on Monday, June 4. Game times will be 1:10 and 7:10 p.m. ET.
The two teams also were rained out on Saturday. Since this weekend is the Yankees' only scheduled visit to the Motor City this season, the teams were hoping the weather would relent at some point on Sunday. Instead, the rain froze overnight as temperatures dipped below freezing.
Both teams were scheduled to be off on June 4, which is the first day of the MLB Draft. The Yankees will stop over in between series at Baltimore and Toronto.
Tickets from Saturday's rainout will be valid for the first game of the June 4 doubleheader. Fans can also exchange their tickets for a similar or lesser-priced regular-season game over the next 12 months except for Opening Day.
Tickets for Sunday's originally scheduled game, the afternoon game, will be valid for the night game on June 4. No exchange is necessary.
This marks the fifth and sixth postponements the Tigers have suffered this season as unseasonably chilly, damp weather continues its hold on Michigan. Detroit has a day-night doubleheader scheduled for Friday against the Royals to make up a postponement from earlier this month.
The rainouts push the Tigers rotation back a few days. Francisco Liriano, who was originally scheduled to pitch Saturday, will start Tuesday's series opener against the Orioles, followed by Matthew Boyd on Wednesday and Jordan Zimmermann on Thursday.
