ANAHEIM -- Right-hander Spencer Turnbull took a step towards rejoining the Tigers with a solid rehab outing for Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday night.

The rookie starter threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings against Louisville, allowing one hit while striking out seven. Of his 61 pitches, 37 went for strikes.

Turnbull was placed on the 10-day injured list on July 20, retroactive to July 18, with an upper back strain. Manager Ron Gardenhire had previously stated that Turnbull could require another rehab start, but the Tigers will need an extra starter for their doubleheader against the White Sox on Tuesday, which could provide an opening for Turnbull’s activation.
