Red Wings Night at Comerica Park is Friday

August 27th, 2019

As the Tigers season winds down and the Red Wings prepare to crank up their training camp, the Tigers are doing their part to get hockey fans ready by hosting Red Wings Night at Comerica Park on Friday.

The cross-promotion for Friday’s series opener against the Twins begins in the afternoon, when Red Wings players will pay a visit and take batting practice on the field. Tigers players, meanwhile, will wear Red Wings shirts when they take their BP rounds.

Once the gates open, fans will be treated to a pregame question-and-answer session with Ken Kal, radio voice of the Red Wings, and a player on the Big Cat Court. Fans will also have a chance to take photos on the concourse with the 2008 Stanley Cup and 1984 World Series trophies. The Red Wings Zamboni will scoot over from Little Caesars Arena for photos on the concourse near Gate B.

Red Wings center and Detroit area native Dylan Larkin will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Karen Newman, longtime anthem singer for the Red Wings, will make a guest appearance at Comerica Park to perform the anthem.

The Tigers have their share of hockey fans. Matthew Boyd grew up playing hockey in the Seattle area, traveling to Vancouver on many weekends to face teams up there. At home, he would watch Hockey Night in Canada with his dad. He quickly became a Red Wings fan after his trade to Detroit in 2015.

Fans who buy the Red Wings Night ticket package for Friday’s 7:10 p.m. ET game will also receive a special Tigers/Red Wings cap, featuring the Red Wings colors and the famed winged wheel logo on the side with the Old English D on the front.
