Royals sign versatile Biggio to Minor League deal
The Royals added a notable name on Sunday, signing super utility player Cavan Biggio to a Minor League contract.
Biggio, who will turn 30 on April 11, finished fifth in American League Rookie of the Year Award voting with the Blue Jays in 2019. His best offensive season was in 2020, when he hit eight home runs, stole 14 bases and posted an .807 OPS in 59 games.
Since then, though, Biggio has hit just .216 with a .673 OPS. His Toronto tenure ended last June, when he was traded to the Dodgers by the Blue Jays. Los Angeles released Biggio in August, and he signed with the Giants two weeks later but did not appear in the Majors. Biggio was then traded to the Braves in September, appearing in just four games with Atlanta.
The versatile Biggio -- the son of Hall of Famer Craig Biggio -- played first base, second base, third base and right field at least 10 times each in 2024. He has made at least one appearance at shortstop and in left and center field in his career as well.
