ROSIE RED BOBBLEHEAD

The public supply of the Rosie Red Bobblehead, the Reds Hall of Fame’s collectible gift for August, has been exhausted. Rosie Red bobbleheads are still available as part of Reds Hall of Fame membership packages. The September collectible gift, a Bronson Arroyo replica Reds Hall of Fame plaque, will be available to the public beginning on Saturday, September 2.

The official mascot of one of the most impactful fan organizations in baseball history was unveiled in pre-game ceremonies at Crosley Field on August 6, 1964. The organization Rosie represents, the Rosie Reds, had been founded earlier that year. The group’s name is an acronym: Rooters Organized to Stimulate Interest and Enthusiasm in the Cincinnati Reds. At that time in Reds history, attendance in Reds games was lagging, as was general interest in the club. Realities were unfolding amidst rumors the team’s ownership was actively looking to move the Reds to another city. Against this backdrop, a group of dedicated fans decided that a concerted effort needed to be made to ward off any chance of the club moving and from that determination, the Rosie Reds were born. A women’s-only organization for the first three years of its history, the Rosies attracted some of the most prominent women in Cincinnati who marshalled their collective resources behind a host of initiatives designed to celebrate the Reds and to stress the significant role the Reds played in the community. The influence of the organization’s leadership ,coupled with an aggressive marketing and membership solicitation campaign, resulted in rapid growth for the Rosie Reds and with it, an ever-increasing level of impact on the Reds and the city. In the decades since its founding, the Rosie Reds have continued to grow, diversifying their civic and philanthropic efforts to reach new generations of Reds fans and stands today as one of the most prominent organizations of its kind in all of baseball.

The bobblehead, presented by Dinsmore, is free with regular-price paid admission to the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum (or a Great American Ball Park Tour) on Saturdays and Sundays through August, while supplies last. The Rosie Reds are the presenting sponsors of the Hall of Fame’s Dinsmore Women in Baseball exhibit. The exhibit explores the multi-faceted and impactful contributions women and girls have made and are making to America’s National Pastime as players, fans, broadcasters, writers, coaches, managers, owners and executives. It is a story that dates to the early days of the organized game and one that continues to evolve in the present day. The exhibit explores the many obstacles women and girls have overcome and still struggle against to be a part of the game they love, and highlights many of the groundbreaking individuals, achievements and events that serve as inspiration to all those striving to make a dream come true. Conceived and curated by baseball historian John Kovach, the exhibit features over 200 artifacts.
