Otto Lopez #61

Was born in the Dominican Republic before moving to Montreál at age 12 when his father got a new job there. In addition to playing baseball, Lopez tried his hand at hockey, basketball and badminton...Speaks three languages: Spanish, French and English...Went back to the DR four years later to have a better chance of being signed as a young player. His uncle, Urbano, helped with his move back...He and his wife, Marle Vásquez Lopez, are expecting their first child later this year...Has played four off seasons in the Dominican Winter League for Escogido (‘19-20, ‘20-21, ‘22-23 and ‘23-24). Some of his past teammates include current Giants NRI Yusniel Díaz, Pittsburgh’s Oneil Cruz and Toronto’s Vlad Guerrero Jr. He played one season for the Gigantes del Cibao (2021-22) in the DWL as well.

2023

Spent the entire year at Triple-A Buffalo, appearing in 84 games for the Bisons. Posted a .656 OPS...Missed most of the last two months of the season after suffering a left oblique strain in late July...Was 13-for-17 in stolen base attempts...Appeared all over the diamond, logging 21 games at second base, 31 games at shortstop, one game at third, 15 games in left field and 11 games in center field...Played for Team Canada in the 2023 World Baseball Classic, going 5-for-17 (.294) with four runs, a triple, a home run and six RBI across four games… teammates for Canada included Dodgers’ IF Freddie Freeman, Minnesota IF Edouard Julien, Cleveland C Bo Naylor, Boston OF Tyler O’Neill and Seattle RHP Matt Brash.

2022

Recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on Aug. 6, Sept. 9, and Sept. 22... On Oct. 1 vs. BOS, singled off Josh Winckowski for his first career hit on his 24th birthday... Made his first career MLB start in the first game of the doubleheader Oct. 5 at BAL, taking the field at shortstop...Notched his first career RBI as he went 5-for-8 between both games of the doubleheader (3RBI, BB, K)... Played 91 games for the Bisons, batting .297 with 19 doubles, six triples, three homers and 34 RBI, while swiping 14 bases (.793 OPS).

2021

Ranked eighth-best prospect in the organization by MLB.com entering the year... Started the season playing in 70 games for Double-A New Hampshire where he hit .331 (92-for-278) with 24 doubles, a triple, three home runs, 39 RBI and seven stolen bases... Promoted to Buffalo for his first action at the Triple-A level Aug. 2... Played 43 games for the Bisons, batting .289 (50-for-173) with eight doubles, three triples, two home runs, 25 RBI and 15 steals... Recalled from the Bisons on Aug. 17...Made his MLB debut that night in Washington, pinch-hitting in the fourth inning (0-for1, K)...Optioned on Aug. 22... Named an MiLB.com Organizational All-Star after the season.

2020

Took part in three Major League Spring Training games and went 2-for-6 at the plate with both hits going for doubles...Added to Toronto’s 40-man roster in November to protect him from the Rule 5 Draft...Played in the Dominican Winter League with Escogido and batted .254 across 18 games.
