PHOENIX -- First baseman Paul Goldschmidt and left-hander Patrick Corbin will represent the D-backs at the 2018 All-Star Game presented by Mastercard and their selections this year were extra special for different reasons.
First, for Goldschmidt, this is his sixth straight All-Star Game selection, but also his most unlikely, given his slow start to the season which saw him hitting .198 on May 22.
Goldschmidt caught fire after that, winning National League Player of the Month for June when he hit .364/.460/.738.

"It's been crazy for me individually, to go from the worst month of my career and then to have the best week of my career and then my best month," Goldschmidt said. "I [thought] going to the All-Star Game was pretty much not an option, which is fine. There's a lot of good players, and like I said, I don't take it for granted, but for me, it's pretty incredible and something I didn't expect at all."
This is Corbin's second All-Star Game selection. He and Goldschmidt went to their first All-Star Game together in 2013 at Citi Field in New York.
In just his second year in the big leagues, Corbin's career was on the upswing at that point. He was tabbed to be the team's Opening Day starter in 2014, but then tore his ulnar collateral ligament in his final Spring Training tuneup and had to undergo Tommy John surgery.

It wasn't until this season when he was able to find the consistency he had before the injury, and Corbin also finally got to make that Opening Day start this year.
"The first one was exciting because it's obviously the first one, so I'll always remember that one," Corbin said. "But the journey that I've gone through -- being out for a year and a half, and being able to come back and get back to myself, it's special, so I'll remember that. I'm excited. It's going to be a fun time for my family and everybody. Just looking forward to it."
Corbin will has been on a roll of late, compiling a 0.95 ERA in his last three starts.
