Luis Gonzalez is one of Arizona’s most popular figures because of how he interacted with fans and his iconic game-winning hit in game 7 of the 2001 World Series to capture the state’s first championship. His career took off in Arizona as he was a 5-time NL All-Star, had a career-best 30-game hitting streak and led the NL with 206 hits in 1999 and had a NL-record and MLB-record-tying 13 home runs in April 2001. His dominant 2001 campaign put him among baseball’s elite, finishing second with 419 total bases, third with 57 home runs, 142 RBI and a .688 slg and fourth with 100 extra-base hits and a 1.117 ops. His 57 homers made him the eighth player with at least that many blasts in a season, his 419 total bases were tied for 10th most in a season and his 100 extra-base hits made him just the 12th player to reach that mark. He was the fastest player in baseball history to reach 20 home runs (40 games) and the fifth player to hit 50 home runs before September 1. A fiery competitor on the field, he was charismatic and easy going off the field as he strived to give back. He was on the first 3 NL West division title teams. In 8 seasons with the Diamondbacks, he played in 1,194 games and posted a .298 average, .919 ops, 310 doubles, 27 triples, 224 home runs and 774 RBI. in 2010, his number 20 was retired, the first Diamondback to receive that honor. He serves as a senior advisor, continuing to impact the team and community.

Randy Johnson cemented his place in baseball history as one of the most dominant, intimidating, and decorated pitchers with a historic run during his first 4 seasons in Arizona, from 1999-2002, winning 4 straight NL Cy Young awards, securing 4 NL All-Star nods, becoming the first pitcher with 4 consecutive 300-strikeout seasons and leading the league in ERA 3 times. He was co-MVP of the 2001 World Series championship team, and in 6 games (5 starts) that postseason, went 5-1 with a 1.52 ERA, .171 opponent average and 47 strikeouts. His 20-strikeout game on May 8, 2001, made him the third pitcher to tie the Major League record for a 9.0-inning game. He secured the pitcher’s triple crown in 2002 (24 wins, 2.32 era, 334 strikeouts). He tossed a perfect game on May 18, 2004 @ Braves at the age of 40 years, 251 days, the oldest pitcher to accomplish the feat. Known for his intense, fiery and larger-than-life mound presence, the southpaw climbed 30 spots to second on baseball’s all-time strikeout list. He led his teams to 4 NL West division titles. In 8 seasons as a Diamondback, he pitched in 233 games (232 starts) with a 118-62 record, .656 winning percentage, 2.83 era in 1,630.1 innings, .221 opponent average and 2,077 strikeouts (11.47 k/9). In 2015, he was the first Diamondback inducted into baseball’s Hall of Fame and had his number 51 retired by the team. He serves as a special assistant to support the team and community.
