MadBum's return will be a homecoming in SF
Saturday will be a homecoming for D-backs left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Bumgarner will be activated from the injured list and will start that night against the Giants at Oracle Park.
It will be Bumgarner’s first start against the team that drafted him and the one for which he pitched from 2009-19, winning three World Series in that span.
Bumgarner signed a five-year, $85 million free-agent deal with the D-backs this past offseason.
The 31-year-old made four starts for the D-backs before departing his last one on Aug. 9 against the Padres in San Diego with back discomfort. He was diagnosed with a mid-back strain and has been on the IL since.
Bumgarner is 0-3 with a 9.35 ERA this season, and his fastball velocity has been down, likely a result of the layoff between Spring Training -- when his velocity was fine -- and the restart of baseball in late July.
