Jordan Lawlar's 2021 professional debut was brief and lasted just two games before it came to an end.

The D-backs' No. 1 prospect, selected sixth overall in the 2021 Draft, will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery to repair a posterior labrum tear, Arizona's farm director, Josh Barfield, told the Arizona Republic.

Lawlar is expected to be sidelined for about seven months and should be ready to go near the beginning of the 2022 season. The 19-year-old's debut was brief, but he did pick up his first professional hit, going 2-for-5 with a double over two games in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.

A five-tool shortstop, Lawlar won Gatorade's Texas high school player of the year award this season and signed for an above-slot $6.71 million after the Draft. While he struck out more than expected last season, Lawlar has an advanced approach at the plate, plus speed and a lofty ceiling, which many within the D-backs organization are excited about.
