PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks agreed to terms with catcher Caleb Joseph on a one-year contract. To make room for Joseph on the roster, the D-backs placed right-hander Taijuan Walker on the 60-day injured list. The D-backs' 40-man roster remains at 40.
Joseph, 32, garnered American League Rawlings Gold Glove Award consideration in 2015 and '17, receiving as many as seven votes in '15 and finishing fifth in the balloting. He also ranks ninth among all active catchers [minimum 375 games] with a 29.4-caught stealing percentage (74-for-252), ahead of '18 All-Stars J.T. Realmuto (11th, 28.3), Wilson Ramos (12th, 27.3) and Buster Posey (13th, 26.9).
Joseph spent the majority of 2018 with the Orioles, throwing out 32.2-percent of attempted basestealers (19-of-59) and tying Salvador Perez for the Major League lead with 11 double plays as catcher. Additionally, he hit .219 (58-for-265) with 14 doubles, three home runs and 17 RBIs in 82 games with Baltimore, and .273 (24-for-88) with two homers and 14 RBIs in 24 games with Triple-A Norfolk.
The 6-foot-3, 180-pounder played in five Major League seasons with the Orioles from 2014-18 and batted .224 (272-for-1,217) with 56 doubles, four triples, 31 home runs and 122 RBIs in 402 games.
Joseph was selected by Baltimore in the seventh round of the 2008 Draft from Lipscomb University.
Walker, 26, made three starts with the D-backs last season before suffering a torn right ulnar collateral ligament on April 14, 2018, against the Dodgers. He underwent Tommy John surgery on April 25 in New York (performed by Dr. David Altchek).
