LOS ANGELES -- The D-backs' A.J. Pollock celebrated his National League Player of the Week Award in style, hitting a home run in his first at-bat in Tuesday night against the Dodgers.
It set the tone for what would ultimately be an 8-5 D-backs victory over the Dodgers in 12 innings, but it would not come easy as Chris Owings, John Ryan Murphy and Daniel Descalso also hit home runs.
Pollock's latest honor was announced Monday, but he was traveling to Los Angeles with his team on an off-day. The downtime did nothing to alter his approach at the plate.
"It's just fun playing for the team and it has been a fun stretch," Pollock said. "We have played some really difficult teams with some really good pitching staffs. It was good to have the off-day [Monday] and then get right back at it so hopefully we can keep this thing going."
Coming to bat against Dodgers starter Rich Hill, Pollock crushed his 11th home run of the season into the seats in left-center field. The blast gave Arizona a 2-0 lead.
It was Pollock's fifth home run against the Dodgers in a span of five games, going back to last week's four-game series at Arizona. He had a three-homer game against the Dodgers on April 30.

In his 11 games against the Dodgers this season, Pollock is 15-for-43 (.349) with eight runs, four doubles, 11 RBIs and a 1.322 OPS. Tuesday's home run was his seventh this season against Dodgers pitching.
"I just feel like I have to dial it in against these guys," Pollock said about playing against the Dodgers. "I know them, I know how they pitch. They execute pitches so I really have to dial it in. Maybe it heightens my focus a little bit, I don't know. It's fun to contribute to a victory like this and hopefully we can keep it going."
While winning his fourth career Player of the Week Award, Pollock hit .423 with a 1.000 slugging percentage, tops in the NL over that stretch.
