Cubs place INF Dansby Swanson on 10-day I.L., recall INF Miles Mastrobuoni from Triple-A
NEW YORK – The Chicago Cubs today placed infielder Dansby Swanson on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to July 6) with a left heel contusion and recalled infielder Miles Mastrobuoni from Triple-A Iowa.
Mastrobuoni, 27, begins his fourth stint with Chicago (Opening Day-April 14, May 12-June 9, June 13-27) this season and has batted .145 (9-for-62) with two doubles, one RBI, nine walks and six stolen bases in 29 games. He has seen time in right field (six games), second base (four games), shortstop (three games), left field (one game) and has one start as the club’s designated hitter.
In 26 games with Iowa this season, Mastrobuoni is batting .305 (25-for-82) with eight doubles, two triples, eight RBI and 27 walks, compared to 28 strikeouts, contributing to a .477 on-base percentage and a .928 OPS.
The five-foot, 10-inch Mastrobuoni was acquired from Tampa Bay in November 2022 for minor league right-handed pitcher Alfredo Zárraga. Selected by the Rays in the 14th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Nevada, he made his major league debut with Tampa Bay last season, appearing in eight games.
Swanson, 29, is hitting .258 (84-for-325) with 15 doubles, two triples, 10 home runs and 36 RBI in 83 games for Chicago this season. He last week was named to the N.L. All-Star team via the player vote, his second-career N.L. All-Star honor (2022 with Atlanta).
