Red Schoendienst - 1923-2018

Red Schoendienst, a fixture with the Cardinals and one of the organization's most beloved figures, died on Wednesday at the age of 95.

Even in the twilight of a long, wonderful life, Red Schoendienst seemed happiest on those warm, resplendent spring mornings when he would slip into his Cardinals uniform one more time and head to the back fields to watch the fresh young faces prepare for a new season.

Not many ballplayers have found success on the playing field as well as in the manager's office. But Red Schoendienst could do it all.
