Blue Jays sign David Phelps

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with RHP David Phelps on a one-year contract (US $1,750,000). To make room on the 40-man roster, OF Derek Fisher has been designated for assignment. Phelps, 34, split his 2020 campaign between the Brewers and the Phillies, combining for a 6.53 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. The St. Louis native returns to Toronto, having pitched in 17 games for the Blue Jays in 2019 before he was traded to the Cubs for RHP Thomas Hatch. The 6-2, 198 lb. right-handed reliever has also pitched for the Yankees, Marlins, and Mariners over the course of eight Major League seasons, boasting a career 3.95 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP across 291 contests.
