Brendan Rodgers homered for a second straight game to help support an impressive pitching performance by Peter Lambert as Double-A Hartford defeated Altoona, 6-1.
Rodgers, Colorado's top-ranked prospect (No. 10 overall), turned in his third three-hit effort in the past 10 games, finishing 3-for-4 with a double to go along with his solo homer. The 21-year-old shortstop is putting up big numbers this season in his return to the Eastern League, hitting .287/.339/.538 with 13 homers, 13 doubles and 46 RBIs over 59 games.
On the mound, Lambert (Rockies' No. 3, No. 95 overall) allowed one earned run over 8 2/3 innings as he fell one out short of recording his second complete game in as many starts.
The 21-year-old righty permitted 10 hits but also struck out eight, matching his season-high total, and generated 11 outs on the ground. He threw 110 pitches, 75 for strikes. Lambert sits atop the Eastern League leaderboard in ERA (2.51) and ranks second in innings pitched (71 2/3).

The rest of the best performances from top prospects Saturday
• No. 5 overall prospect Nick Senzel (Reds' No. 1) collected a season-high four hits as Triple-A Louisville posted 20 hits in a 9-4 win over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 22-year-old third baseman went 4-for-6 out of the leadoff spot, tallying a double, two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in the performance. Altogether, Senzel owns a .276/.361/.441 batting line with 13 extra-base hits and seven steals through 33 games.
• No. 19 overall prospect Hunter Greene (Reds' No. 2) overcame a shaky start to his day to retire nine of the final 10 batters and complete five innings in Class A Dayton's 1-0 against Bowling Green. He ultimately allowed one earned run on four hits and two walks and struck out six before departing the game with 84 pitches (64 strikes). What's more, Greene hit 101 mph on the radar gun on multiple occasions. It was the fourth straight outing in which the 18-year-old right-hander allowed exactly one earned run. He's lowered his ERA from 10.06 to 5.70 in that span while compiling 22 strikeouts in 19 1/3 frames.

• No. 66 overall prospect Dane Dunning (White Sox No. 6) was sharp as he gave up one earned run on five hits over 6 2/3 innings in a win for Double-A Birmingham. Throwing 71 of his 99 pitches for strikes in the outing, the 23-year-old righty issued two walks, struck out seven and generated eight ground-ball outs. Dunning hasn't skipped a beat since moving up to the Double-A level, as Saturday's performance gives him a 3.50 ERA and 48-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 43 2/3 innings (eight starts) for the Barons.
• No. 93 overall prospect Sean Murphy (A's No. 3) recorded three run-scoring hits in Double-A Midland's come-from-behind victory over Frisco. The 23-year-old catcher plated a run with a single in the fourth inning and connected on a solo homer two frames later before adding another RBI single in the ninth to finish 3-for-5. It was the second straight three-hit game for Murphy, who's slashing .324/.371/.543 with five homers, 22 doubles and 36 RBIs on the season.

• Angels No. 8 prospect Matt Thaiss and Taylor Ward (No. 13) combined for five hits and six RBIs in Triple-A Salt Lake's win over New Orleans. Thaiss led the offense with four RBIs, three courtesy of his 10th home run of the season. Ward, meanwhile, has now hit safely in six of seven games since being promoted to Triple-A after finishing 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs on Saturday.
• Blue Jays No. 17 prospect Ryan Noda's two-run homer for Class A Lansing was his fourth home run in his past three games and pushed his season total to five. It also extended his hitting streak to eight games, during which he's improved his average from .195 to .235. The 22-year-old also coaxed a pair of walks in the contest, giving him a Midwest League-leading 54 walks in 51 games this season.
• Brewers No. 20 prospect Troy Stokes Jr. finished a triple shy of hitting for the cycle and Luis Ortiz (No. 4) turned in a dominant relief outing as Double-A Biloxi defeated Jacksonville, 6-3. Stokes, 22, tallied a solo homer and a double in the contest before finishing 3-for-4 with a stolen base. He's up to nine home runs and steals apiece this season after totaling 20 homers and 31 stolen bases as part of a breakout 2017 campaign. Ortiz, meanwhile, entered in the sixth inning and delivered four scoreless frames, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out seven en route to his second save.
• Mets No. 2 prospect David Peterson set a pair of career highs as he racked up 10 strikeouts over eight innings in another stellar start for Class A Columbia. He allowed one earned run on six hits and generated 13 ground-ball outs (against zero flyouts) in the outing, throwing 70 of his 95 pitches for strikes. The 2017 first-rounder has completed at least seven innings in five of his past six starts, during which he's pitched to a 1.27 ERA with 44 strikeouts and five walks in 42 2/3 innings. He's received little-to-no run support in those starts, however, going 0-4 with a pair of no-decisions.

• Orioles No. 29 prospect Ryan McKenna continued his assault on Carolina League pitching with a 4-for-5 performance for Class A Advanced Frederick. Two of McKenna's hits went for extra bases, as he clubbed his sixth home run, a two-run shot, as well as his 16th double. The 21-year-old outfielder is enjoying a breakout season, as he currently paces the circuit in average (.366), on-base percentage (.452), OPS (.977), hits (83), runs (49) and total bases (119).
• Padres No. 27 prospect Austin Allen went deep in his first two at-bats and finished 4-for-5, helping power Double-A San Antonio past Corpus Christi, 7-4. It was the first multi-homer performance and second four-hit game of the season for the 24-year-old catcher, who recorded three RBIs and runs apiece. Starter Cal Quantrill (Padres' No. 4, No. 34 overall) allowed three earned runs over 5 2/3 innings to record his third win in as many starts.
• Red Sox No. 9 prospect Mike Shawaryn matched his season high with eight strikeouts in seven innings in his longest start of the season for Double-A Portland. He allowed one earned run on four hits and did not issue a walk for a second straight outing. Now 11 starts into his first Double-A campaign, the 23-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 3.41 ERA with 59 strikeouts and 14 walks in 63 1/3 innings.
• Royals No. 3 prospect Seuly Matias blasted his Minor League-leading 20th home run in Game 2 of Class A Lexington's doubleheader against Asheville. He finished the contest 1-for-2 with a walk after going 0-for-3 in the opener. Matias' power output has been impressive in his first full season, though the 19-year-old outfielder is hitting just .233 with 72 strikeouts in 49 games.
