TORONTO -- The Blue Jays' outfield came through in Sunday's 3-1 win at Rogers Centre over the Dodgers, helping Toronto end its five-game slide.

First, it was Daulton Varsho, who crashed into the center-field wall to take a hit away from Shohei Ohtani in the first inning. And in the ninth, George Springer made the play of the game, robbing Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages of extra bases with a scintillating diving catch.

“Unreal,” manager John Schneider said after the game. “We have the best outfield defense in baseball, I believe that. It changed the game, obviously. … That was about as good as it gets with George.”

Springer and Varsho were fired up after each of those plays, and they weren’t the only ones.

“The truth is, it gives you some extra energy,” catcher Alejandro Kirk said in Spanish. “Plays like those make the team feel better right away.”
