KANSAS CITY -- Friday night’s game between the Royals and Blue Jays was postponed due to inclement weather, with the Kansas City forecast calling for heavy rain throughout the night.

The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on Saturday at Kauffman Stadium. The first game will begin at 1:10 p.m. CT and the second is scheduled for 5:10 p.m. CT. Both will be seven-inning games.

Royals lefty Mike Minor, who was scheduled for Friday’s game, will start Game 1 on Saturday. Right-hander Ervin Santana will make his season debut and start Game 2 after being added to the roster this week. Santana was a member of the Royals in 2013 and came back on a Minor League deal this offseason. He last pitched in the Major Leagues in ‘19, making three starts for the White Sox.

The Blue Jays have not announced their pitching plans for the doubleheader. Lefty Steven Matz was scheduled to start Friday’s game.

Kansas City hasn’t announced Sunday’s series-finale starter. Before the postponement, right-hander Brady Singer was supposed to start Saturday’s game and lefty Danny Duffy was slated to pitch Sunday.

Friday's game was the second postponed matchup of the season for both teams; last weekend, the Royals’ game against the White Sox and the Blue Jays’ game against the Angels were postponed.

Since then, the Royals have been on a roll, having yet to lose a series this season and winning their past three games, including Thursday’s series opener against the Blue Jays.

“I woke up this morning hoping that the forecast was going to be radically wrong,” manager Mike Matheny said. “Just want to keep playing. … We’ll have plenty of chances to grind, but they’ve adapted well. I think they’ve done a great job, without it being ideal, of still coming out and figure out ways to get sharp and get ready to play.”

The Royals were able to work out inside at Kauffman Stadium on Friday afternoon, with batting-cage work and throwing programs still on course.

“Told the guys to take their time coming in,” Matheny said. “Let everybody come in, get the work they need. Some of them are playing catch. But we have guys doing individual work down in the cages as well. So we’re trying to make the most of the day.”

Fans who have tickets to Friday’s game should use those same tickets for admittance to Saturday’s second game at 5:10 p.m. If they cannot attend the make-up game Saturday, they may be eligible to receive a voucher to use for a future 2021 regular-season game (restrictions apply). Fans who purchased tickets on the secondary market must contact the customer-service staff for that business for inquiries about rainout tickets.
