Director - Media Relations
Nick Kappel is in his ninth season with the Royals and third as the Director of Media Relations. He previously served as the Manager of Communications & Broadcasting from 2020-21 and as the Coordinator of Communications & Broadcasting from 2016-19. In his current role, Kappel assists in baseball communications and leads the day-to-day baseball information efforts, producing daily game notes and press releases. He also serves as the primary editor of team publications, including the media guide and yearbook. During the 2022 American League Championship Series, he produced game notes and assisted Major League Baseball’s PR efforts. In 2017, he was a contributing editor/writer for the book, “Kansas City Royals 50 Years: A Golden History,” and following the 2016 season, he helped launch the Royal Rundown blog.
Before joining the Royals, Kappel was a Communications Intern with the Tampa Bay Rays in 2015 and with the Miami Marlins in 2014. Prior to that, he served as the Press Box Assistant with the Jupiter Hammerheads of the Florida State League in 2013, and interned with Perfect Game USA from 2012-13. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 2012 with a degree in journalism. Kappel also attended Iowa State University and Kirkwood Community College. A native of Waterloo, Iowa, Nick resides in Kansas City, Mo., with his wife, Caitlin and their miniature schnauzer, Wilbur.
