If you watch enough baseball, they say you'll see something you've never seen before. In the case of this play in Tuesday night's Triple-A game between Omaha and St. Paul, you may never see it again.

Omaha pitcher Gabe Speier -- a left-hander who has been involved in trades that have included Dansby Swanson and Yoenis Céspedes -- turned in a play that nearly defies description, but let's try:

With one out in the bottom of the eighth, the lefty nearly caught a sharp line-drive comebacker with a behind-the-back snag. That would have been impressive enough. But the swinging motion of his arm forced the glove off of his hand -- with the ball still in it! -- and into the air. As the glove came down, the ball fell out, both hitting the mound at about the same time. Speier, who spun around, alertly looked for the ball, picking it up on a bounce with his bare hand, then delivered a strike to the first baseman to record the out.

Ho-hum, just another 1-3 putout in the box score, but as one of the broadcasters said: "Couldn't do that again if he tried."
