Red Sox reinstate right-handed pitcher Chris Martin from 15-day injured list

Club options right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Chris Martin from the 15-Day Injured List. To make room for Martin on the active roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Cooper Criswell to Triple-A Worcester.

Martin, 38, was placed on the injured list on June 5, retroactive to June 2, with anxiety. The right-hander has pitched in 21 games this season, posting a 4.22 ERA (10 ER/21.1 IP) with 24 strikeouts. He pitched in one rehab game with Worcester on June 16, tossing a scoreless inning with one walk. Originally selected by the Colorado Rockies in the 21st round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native owns a 3.42 ERA (123 ER/323.2 IP) in 345 career games with the Rockies (2014), New York Yankees (2015), Texas Rangers (2018-19), Atlanta Braves (2019-21), Chicago Cubs (2022), Los Angeles Dodgers (2022), and Red Sox (2023-24).

Criswell, 27, last pitched on June 15 against the New York Yankees, allowing two runs on three hits with six strikeouts over 4.0 innings. The right-hander has posted a 4.15 ERA (24 ER/52.0 IP) over 12 Major League games (11 starts) this season. He also has pitched in two Triple-A games with Worcester, allowing just one run in 10.1 innings with nine strikeouts. The Georgia native owns a 4.92 ERA (49 ER/89.2 IP) in 24 Major League games (13 starts) with the Los Angeles Angels (2021), Tampa Bay Rays (2022-23), and Red Sox (2024).
