CHICAGO -- Red Sox utility man Tzu-Wei Lin left Friday night’s 6-1 victory over the White Sox after suffering a sprained left knee during the second inning and will head to the 10-day injured list, manager Alex Cora announced after the game.

“We’re going to put him on the IL,” Cora said after the game at Guaranteed Rate Field. “We’re going to send him to Boston, and we’re going to do all the testing up there. I didn’t notice, but on the replay it didn’t look good. Hopefully, it’s not that serious."

Lin, attempting a steal of second base, appeared to have his left spike get caught during his slide while being thrown out. Cora and Red Sox medical personnel tended to him, but Lin was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Cora said the team would reinstate utility man Eduardo Nuñez from the 10-day injured list. Nunez has been on the injured list since April 19 with a mid-back strain.

Both moves will likely be made official prior to Saturday’s game in Chicago.

Lin, who started in center field, was removed from the game in the bottom of the second inning, with Andrew Benintendi moving from left field to center and Steve Pearce entering as the left fielder. Center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. received a day off after crashing into the wall twice attempting to rob home runs in Thursday night’s loss to the White Sox.
