No. 1 overall prospect Holliday to be promoted to Triple-A
Jackson Holliday is one step closer to the Major Leagues.
The 19-year-old middle infielder, MLB Pipeline’s No. 1 prospect, is expected to be promoted to Triple-A Norfolk this coming week, sources confirmed to MLB.com's Jake Rill and Mark Feinsand.
Holliday has played at three Minor League levels in 2023 and has torn them all up. He has hit .338 with three home runs and nine doubles in 36 games with Double-A Bowie. On the season, Holliday owns a .333/.451/.517 slash line in 107 games across Single-A, High-A and Double-A.
Holliday, the No. 1 overall Draft pick in 2022, is the gem of a loaded Orioles system that came in first in MLB Pipeline’s midseason team re-rank. The O’s currently have six Top 100 prospects; five of whom are in the top 50.
Norfolk is already Baltimore’s most talented affiliate, with five of the Orioles’ top seven prospects -- not including Holliday -- already at Triple-A. All of them are hitters, meaning the Tides’ lineup is about to get even more stacked once Holliday joins the club.
Holliday, the son of former MLB outfielder Matt Holliday, was drafted first overall out of Stillwater (Okla.) High School. He was MLB Pipeline’s No. 12 prospect prior to the 2023 season but quickly rose up the ranks.
