Taylor Hearn Woodbat Classic tryouts
The Texas Rangers Youth Academy is holding closed tryouts today for the 12U Rangers team participating in the Taylor Hearn Woodbat Classic later this month.
Hearn’s Woodbat Classic baseball tournament, scheduled for Oct. 29-30 in DeSoto, Texas, will see teams comprised of North Texas ball players ages 6-14 compete in two days of tournament play.
The Rangers Youth Academy will enter a team of its own in Hearn’s youth tournament and is looking to add 15 of the best young athletes to the roster.
Nearly 55 athletes identified by Texas Rangers Youth Academy coaches and staff will participate in today’s tryout with hopes of representing the Rangers later this month. Team tryouts will consist of defensive drills, batting practice and simulated game play with live batter-pitcher matchups.
The roster for the Texas Rangers Youth Academy’s Taylor Hearn Woodbat Classic team will be announced later this month.
Four Rangers Youth Academy Athletes invited to Breakthrough Series

Gonzalez, MVP of the Oklahoma City Softball Breakthrough Series earlier this year, will participate alongside her Rangers Youth Academy teammates in the program, which focuses on developing athletes on and off the field.
Nearly 60 participants from across the U.S. will travel to the Jackie Robinson Training Complex to work with USA Softball Olympians, professional softball players and college coaches for three days of instruction, scrimmages and off-filed seminars.
