Area Code: Dallas Development Series
On Saturday, March 5, the Texas Rangers Youth Academy will host Area Code Baseball’s Dallas Development Series. This weekend’s event will kick off the Area Code 2022 Development Event Series, scheduled to make stops in Texas, Wisconsin, California, Washington and Arizona.
This event series is designed to give young ballplayers the opportunity to learn and develop critical baseball skills from top-level instructors. Participants will receive an early introduction to data capture, analysis and mechanical feedback to implement in real-time.
Additionally, participants will gain prospect visibility to participate in future, invite-only, Area Code games.
Around 75 athletes in sixth, seventh and eighth grade will participate in the event, including 11 Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes. Beginning at 9 a.m., players will run through a series of drills that focus on pitching, swing and defensive fundamentals, competitive situations and capture various data points like throwing velocity and swing metrics.
Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes participating in the event include Aaron Grant, Jackson Morris, Kaleb Thompkins, Isaac Casas, Diego Eguia, Joshua Castaneda, Santos Salinas, Enrique Ojeda, Emiliano Maldonado, Urban Cason, Braylen Hubbard and Lloyd Lewis.
Mercy Street Little League Opening Day
Mercy Street Sports Little League is back for the 2022 spring season. Little League Opening Day events will take place on Saturday, March 5, at the Texas Rangers Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota.
Mercy Street director of sports Marvin Rosales organized this year’s festivities, creating a special day for the young athletes and their families.
“We are excited about our spring season as we have 18 teams with approximately 220 players participating,” he said. “Our season begins with our Opening Day ceremonies, including a parade and the opportunity to introduce teams to the community.”
Events will begin at 10 a.m., with the parade of teams, followed by the ceremonial first pitch, tossed by Dallas Police Department Assistant Chief Albert Martinez, and a special appearance from Rangers mascot Captain. Each team participating in the spring season will be recognized and served a free BBQ lunch prior to the 1 p.m. start time for games.
Tomorrow will mark the first games of the two-month-long season for Mercy Street spring baseball.
