Rangers Youth Academy to compete in Cat Osterman Softball Tournament

The Texas Rangers Youth Academy will compete this weekend in the Cat Osterman 16U Softball Tournament at Downs Mabson Field in Austin, Texas.

Comprised of 15 of the best Rangers Youth Academy softball stars 16 years old and younger, the team will compete in round-robin play Saturday, Jan. 7, and Sunday, Jan. 8, to determine seeding for Sunday afternoon’s championship and third-place games.

The Rangers will compete against the Cat Osterman Softball Academy, Houston Astros Youth Academy and travel softball team, the War Dogs.

In their opening game, the Rangers will face the Cat Osterman Softball Academy at 2 p.m. on Mabson Field.

After a second-place finish in last year’s Cat Osterman Softball Tournament, the Rangers Youth Academy, coached by Juan Leonel Gárciga, Gigi Garcia and Miguel Lopez, will look to take home the championship.

As the Texas Rangers Youth Academy begins its fifth full year in operation, the West Dallas Academy will create more opportunities for its athletes than ever before.

Throughout 2023, Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes will have the chance to participate in tournaments, showcases, workshops, MLB competitions, MLB Develops events and off-field opportunities that will benefit their journey to becoming Major League Citizens.

• Feb. 23-24 – College baseball at the Youth Academy (Texas Wesleyan vs. Sterling College)
• Feb. 23-26 – Andre Dawson Classic 12U Tournament in New Orleans
• March 28 – Spring Programming begins (18U, 12U, 9U)
• April 30 – Jr. Home Run Derby: Round 1
• May 13 – Rangers RBI Opening Day
