DALLAS — A handful of the top Texas Rangers Youth Academy athletes arrived in Seattle, Wash., today to compete in Major League Baseball’s All-Star Week youth competitions.
The Rangers Youth Academy All-Star baseball and softball teams will compete in the fourth annual Commissioner’s Cup and Jennie Finch Classic against Youth Academies and MLB Nike RBI programs from across the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Opening Ceremonies for the tournaments take place tonight at T-Mobile Park, home of the Seattle Mariners, with tournament pool play beginning Friday morning and championship games played on Monday, July 10.
David Hogg II of Mansfield High School will participate in the MLB/USA Baseball High School All-American Game in addition to representing the Rangers on the All-Star Commissioner’s Cup team.
The premier All-Star showcase game brings together 40 of the top U.S. and Canada-based high school baseball prospects for next year’s 2024 MLB Draft, which will take place in DFW as part of 2024 All-Star Week events.
Hogg, a Louisiana State University commit, will play middle infield for the “American” team tomorrow, Friday, July 7, at 3:30 p.m. CT. The live stream of the High School All-American game will be available on MLB.com.
The Jr. Home Run Derby at T-Mobile Park rounds out the 2023 youth All-Star events. The Rangers Youth Academy will have three athletes swing for a Jr. Home Run Derby National Championship title — Mason Berry (12U baseball), Kennedy Day (16U softball), and Amira Forbit (14U softball).
Tomorrow morning’s Jr. Home Run Derby Finals begin at 9 a.m. CT and will be streamed live on MLB.com.
As part of the All-Star Week experience, athletes will also visit Capital One PLAY BALL PARK and Seattle's famous Pike Place Market and attend events like the HBCU Swingman Classic presented by T-Mobile & Powered by the MLB-MLBPA Youth Development Foundation, SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, All-Star Celebrity Softball Game presented by Corona, and T-Mobile Home Run Derby.
In 2024, the All-Star Week youth events will take place at the Texas Rangers Youth Academy and Globe Life Field as part of the Rangers’ selection to host the 94th Midsummer Classic in Arlington.
