Texas Rangers Youth Academy Advances to Championship Game in Breakthrough Series Invitational Tournament, Falls Short of Title in 1-0 Loss

June 16th, 2024

Vero Beach, Fla.— The Texas Rangers Youth Academy this weekend competed in Major League Baseball’s Breakthrough Series Invitational Tournament, where they advanced to the championship game and finished as runners-up.

First pitch for the championship game was at 7:30 a.m. CT at MLB’s Jackie Robinson Training Center, where the Rangers lost 1-0 to the Breakthrough Series Team. Romel Garcia pitched a complete game for the Rangers after sacrificing a leadoff home run to University of Miami commit Rookie Shepard on his second pitch of the contest.

The Rangers attempted to rally in the top of the sixth in a two-out, bases-loaded situation, but Lou Collier’s Breakthrough Series Team escaped the inning with some key defensive plays.

With the second-place finish, the Texas Rangers Youth Academy completed the tournament with a 4-1 record, outscoring their three pool play opponents 25-9 before securing their 13-3 semi-final victory over the Walk Off Charities Scout Team.

This morning’s championship game was streamed live on MLB.com and can be viewed here.
