Anaheim, Calif. — The Texas Rangers today announced the following roster moves prior to Saturday night’s game against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim:

  • Right-handed pitcher Josh Sborz placed on 15-day Injured List with right shoulder fatigue.
  • Left-handed pitcher Walter Pennington recalled from Arizona Complex League Rangers.

Sborz will finish the season with a 2-2 record and 3.86 ERA over 17 relief appearances for the Rangers. This will be his fourth stint on the Injured List in 2024, the others April 7-24 (right rotator cuff strain), May 9-July 4 (right rotator cuff strain), and August 8-September 23 (right shoulder fatigue). He pitched once this week after his most recent return from the Injured List, taking the loss on Tuesday at Oakland.

Pennington, 26, will be in his third stint with Texas, also August 2-5 and August 11-September 23. He has combined to go 1-0 with a 3.00 ERA (6 ER/18.0 IP) over 16 relief appearances with Kansas City and Texas this season in his first career Major League action. His most recent outing was last Saturday vs. Seattle. He was optioned to the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday due to the club's affiliate seasons having already ended.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with six players on the 60-day Injured List: Evan Carter, Carson Coleman, Jon Gray, Tyler Mahle, Corey Seager, Cole Winn.
