Ten Rangers softballers to showcase skills for Team USA evaluators at High Performance Program Identifier
In one month, USA Softball’s High Performance Program will host a skills showcase at the Texas Rangers Youth Academy to identify local talent for its pipeline to the Women’s National Team.
A handful of top participants will be invited to join the pool of athletes who will get the opportunity to train, compete and represent USA Softball through domestic and international competitions.
Ten Texas Rangers Youth Academy softball stars were invited to participate in the upcoming event on Sunday, April 21.
Savannah Vargas offers a steady presence behind the dish as one of the Youth Academy’s top young catchers. Vargas has experience playing on the world stage for Team Mexico, and her ability to hit for power to all fields played a role in the Youth Academy’s championship win at the 2024 Cat Osterman Softball Academy Winter Invitational.
15-year-old pitcher Sophia Zuniga has been refining her skills as an active participant in the Academy’s year-round softball programming, and her talent in the pitching circle and infield has made her a standout player in the Rangers Nike RBI League.
Hailey Zuniga has quickly become one of the Rangers Youth Academy’s top talents. The right-handed pitcher has a knack for striking out her competitors and is coming off a strong showing at last year’s invitation-only MLB Develops Softball Breakthrough Series.
Jr. Home Run Derby 2024 National Champion Amira Forbit continues to develop her play. She’s quickly established herself as a reliable middle infielder with a supercharged swing.
Righty pitcher Madison Cotilla, one of the Rangers frontline starters for the 2024 Cat Osterman Winter Invitational, has a commanding presence in the circle with a tough-to-hit three-pitch mix.
Juliet Amparan offers versatility as a left-handed hitter with speed on the base paths and the ability to pitch and play middle infield. The 16-year-old has become a key contributor to the Rangers Youth Academy softball program.
17-year-old superstar Destan Burks is one of the top shortstops and hitters among the talented pool of Rangers Youth Academy softballers. She’s been on several Youth Academy All-Star teams, hitting in the heart of the order.
Corner infielder Alyssa Summers, a former Jr. Home Run Derby finalist, is known for her ability to hit for power and is often on the roster for Rangers Youth Academy All-Star and tournament teams.
Up-and-coming star Meagan Robles is one of the Academy’s top center fielders with speed and a plus arm; on the other side of the ball, the right-handed hitter is a middle-of-the-order power bat.
Infielder Ana Gonzalez has played on several Youth Academy All-Star teams and, on multiple occasions, has received recognition as the top performer at MLB Develops events. She can play across the diamond, has good pitch selection at the plate and always plays with passion.
