DETROIT -- Shin-Soo Choo doubled in his first at-bat in Saturday's 7-2 loss against the Tigers at Comerica Park to extend his on-base streak to 46 games. That ties Julio Franco for the franchise record.
Choo got to 45 games Friday night by homering on the second of the pitch of the game. On Saturday, he hacked at the first pitch of the game and lofted it to deep right-center field for a double. Most hitters are able to leg out a triple on balls hit to the deepest part of Comerica Park, but Choo was visibly held up by the right quadriceps discomfort he's been dealing with.

Choo entered Saturday's contest batting .339 during this on-base streak. His double had an exit velocity of 103.7 mph and a launch angle of 31 degrees.
"It's very impressive what Choo is doing," manager Jeff Banister said. "The consistency of it all, the concentration. Any time a player is battling through some nagging things, to continue to go out and perform is hugely impressive. He's a tremendous player. … For me it's not just the on-base [streak]. It's how he's playing, how he's swinging the bat with power, the extra-base hits, walks."
