Betts, N. Lowe rake their way to Player of the Week
The Dodgers’ Mookie Betts and the Rangers’ Nathaniel Lowe ended the month of August on a tear, and they were named the Players of the Week presented by Chevrolet on Monday for their efforts.
Betts put together another stellar week for the MLB-leading Dodgers, batting .346 with four home runs and seven RBIs across six games. In total, seven of his nine hits last week went for extra bases.
Betts’ best game of the week came on Friday, when he tallied four hits, two home runs and four RBIs in Los Angeles’ 10-6 win over Miami in 10 innings. He tied the game in the ninth with a home run before giving the Dodgers the lead in the 10th on an RBI double. The next day, Betts smacked his 30th home run of the year, and then he crushed a leadoff home run on Sunday.
The 2018 AL MVP is batting .281 on the year with 31 home runs and 69 RBIs. This is Betts' fourth time earning a Player of the Week nod but his first win in the NL; his last honor came with the Red Sox in July 2017. He becomes the third Dodger to be named the Player of the Week this season, joining Freddie Freeman and Cody Bellinger.
Lowe’s Player of the Week win closes out what has been a fruitful month for the first baseman, as he batted .385 with four home runs and 11 RBIs last week.
Lowe’s biggest game came on Wednesday, when he tallied a career-high five RBIs against the Rockies and finished a double shy of the cycle. He also tallied three RBIs on Tuesday against Colorado, and he drove in at least one run in five of the six games he played in.
On the year, Lowe is batting .300 with a career-high 22 home runs and 65 RBIs. This is the fourth-year Lowe’s first time being named Player of the Week since he claimed the award in July 2019 as a member of the Rays. He is the second Ranger to win Player of the Week this year, joining Corey Seager.
