Leclerc held back with shoulder tightness
ARLINGTON -- Rangers closer José Leclerc was unable to pitch the ninth inning of Wednesday’s 7-4 win over the D-backs because of tightness in his right shoulder.
Right-hander Nick Goody had to close out the game and earn the save after Leclerc felt the tightness warming up in the bullpen. He will undergo further examination on Thursday.
“He felt a little shoulder tightness warming up,” manager Chris Woodward said. “We are going to evaluate him today and tomorrow to see what exactly is going on. At no point were we going to risk that, putting him in the game if there is a little bit of tightness. Wanted to avoid a lengthy injury.”
The Rangers already have relievers Joely Rodríguez and Rafael Montero on the injured list. They were supposed to be Texas' top two setup relievers in front of Leclerc going into the season.
